Date Idea #251 – Learn about Christmas traditions from around the world

Day 12 of 25 Christmas date ideas. Learn about Christmas traditions from around the world.

Every family celebrates Christmas a little differently and this is especially true in other countries. Have an International date night at home as you learn about Christmas traditions in other countries.

With a little extra planning for your date, you can go a step further and eat some International seasonal foods or plan an activity that happens in another country. Here are a few global Christmas traditions:

Iceland – Each night before Christmas, Icelandic children are visited by the 13 Yule Lads that put treats or rotten potatoes in their shoes.

Finland – On Christmas morning, Finish families traditionally eat a porridge made of rice and milk topped with cinnamon, milk, or butter. Whoever finds the almond placed inside one of the puddings “wins”.

Japan – Rather than gathering around the table for a turkey dinner, many families head out to their local Kentucky Fried Chicken.

New Zealand – Families and friends gather for a casual cookout of fresh seafood, meat, and seasonal vegetables on the grill (barbie).

While we are on the topic, we will give a quick shoutout to @destinationdatenights that offer amazing digital date downloads to virtually visit other countries.

Cost: Free, unless your International food/activity costs something.
